Flash Fiction

Ode to Pencil
By Lauren McIntyre

Silently laying, on top the desk
Wanting to pick you up and make the things I could only dream of.
Write the things I can only think of.
Making a new world with a flick of the wrist.
Shaving off the heads of yellow sticks.
Voices and screams, silent talking, planning and building.
Line and dots. Words and Pictures.
Your beauty is simple, it comes from
within.
Staring at the white abyss.
Of the sea of paper.
Holding onto the memories of before.
Locked secret And  hidden lies.
Look deeply and you shall find only what the pencil holds.
Erasing the mistakes of future’s past.
Yellow and pink, brown and silver.
Pencil how you make me smile.

Demo  Day
The  demo   crew  was   almost   done with the   interior  of the  house.   Walking  through   making  sure  everything  was  good.   The  house  looked  great.   Then  the contractor walked up.   “We  found  something.” Now  I  was  scared,  but  I  followed.  He  lead  me  to  a  wall.  A  box  in it?  I  opened  it.  A  cache  of  cash!

The Monster

By Noah Artley

The roar of the monster shakes the windows, causing me to wake from my sleep. As soon as I open my eyes, I know it is Wednesday. The monster rolls down every street collecting its morning feast. The smell is so vile and disgusting.
"Honey," A voice calls. "Don't forget to take out the trash!"

The Boy
The creepy, conspicuous boy glares and locks eyes with mine.
He slowly starts creeping forward.  Closer and closer, each step he gets faster and faster.
I can feel my heart pounding in my chest. I start walking backwards but trip.
I try scrambling away but a heavy hand lands on my back.
“Tag you're it!”

Sue frequently cared for elders, but never understood what it was like to reflect upon one’s entirety. She found an old, withered woman with little left, and begged for advice.
“How can I be happy?”
The woman grew older as she thought.
“You see, we're both dying, though you must stop living like you’re not.”

War

Rainy and muddy - It went bullet after bullet, reload after reload.
It was tied in the war and this was to win it all.
I was drenched in mud, and unable to see.
“Any last words?”  The loud voice asked.
The trigger was pulled and I fell to the floor.
“Got you again!”My brother chuckled.

Worst Enemy
~Kenzi Dowell

It stared me dead in the eyes. It's green skin mocked me. Antennas grew all over his head. He was my worst enemy! All mushy and green, I would defeat him! He was weaker and smaller. My hand enclosed his body tightly leaving only a green mush left.
"JOSEPH! Quit playing and eat your broccoli!"

The Train
“Here it comes!” I said... I jumped onto the tracks, and I wait... It comes closer, closer. My heart pounds.
“Come on, hit me!” I scream. The train speeds on towards me, unstoppable.
20 feet!
10 feet!
5 feet!
Finally! It reaches me and… it goes straight through me. I sulk back to my grave.

Not Again

As I call 9-1-1, the magenta-colored substance continuously oozes out of the the windows. It creeps down the walls, leaving puddles of the bubbling liquid on the ground.
"9-1-1, what's your emergency?" "Hi. I just thought you should know that the bubbling ooze is coming out the windows of the Auburn street mansion. The bubble bath has overflowed again."

The Wars

Gun fire fills the air as the projectiles fly past me. I try to hide but nowhere's safe. I hear footsteps behind me. I begin to run. I crawl under a small space. I quickly get up on the other side to see I'm cornered. They shoot.
"You're out!" A kid says as my jacket buzzes.

The Zombie

A girl at the end of the hallway starts crawling toward me. Her clothes are in shreds, and bright red blood drips from her face. She runs her fingernails on the lockers making a ear shattering noise. I felt she would eat me when she got close enough. Right before my brain gets eaten, I say, “Wow, nice Halloween costume!"

Lose what you Love

Just when I thought I would never see him again there he was.
The love of my life. I hadn’t seen him in years.
“Ian, it’s Nicole,” I say with a smile.
“Oh my darling,” he says.
I go in for a hug when he walks past me, to a girl behind me.
